چکیده
NATURAL OCCURRENCE Although there is little data on the exact incidence of poststenotic dilatation, it is common with some types of constriction such as pulmonary and aortic valve stenoses' but rare with others such as infundibular pulmonary stenosis" or supravalvular aortic stenosis. It occurs with both congenital" and acquired' 6 aortic stenosis. Skandalakis et al., in a survey of the literature from 1928 to 1958, found that 51.6% of the 106 aneurysms reported with coarctation of the aorta were distal to the stenosed segment. Kieffer et al. found 19 cases of mycotic aneurysm distal to a coarctation reported up to 1961 (9 of them ruptured). Zaroff et al. observed poststenotic dilatation distal to coarctation of the abdominal aorta, and Arvidsson et al. and Orell et al. described it beyond coarctation of the peripheral pulmonary arteries. Poststenotic dilatation occurs with renal arterial stenoses, especially those due to arterioselerotic plaques or medial fibromuscular hyperplasia, and may help to detect the

متن کاملReversibility of poststenotic dilatation in the femoral arteries of dogs.
Poststenotie dilatation (PSD) was produced in the femoral arteries of 14 adult dogs. After 9 days to 5 months, the band was removed. If the murmur disappeared, as it did immediately in all but four arteries, the PSD disappeared within 24 hours (studied radiologically by painting the arteries with radio-opaque thorium dioxide). In these four, the dilatation disappeared after the murmur did. Six ...

Background: A correlation between coronary artery disease (CAD) and atherosclerosis of peripheral arteries and the determination of noninvasive indexes for its existence and extent have been sought by many researchers. Some studies report that the intima-media thickness (IMT) of peripheral arteries could play this role. This study evaluated the correlation between the IMTs of common carotid and...
متن کاملInhibition of nitric oxide but not prostacyclin prevents poststenotic dilatation in rabbit femoral artery.
BACKGROUND Poststenotic dilatation (PSD) occurs in a low-pressure region where recirculation eddies oscillate in size during the cardiac cycle. NO may be an important mediator of PSD. METHODS AND RESULTS Femoral arteries of 7 adult male New Zealand White rabbits were stenosed bilaterally to achieve a diameter reduction of 70. 9+/-6.7% (n=14). At the time of stenosis, the adventitia of one of ...
متن کاملVibration Analysis of Carotid Arteries Conveying Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Surrounding by Tissues
The high blood rate that often occurs in arteries may play a role in artery failure and tortuosity which leads to blackouts, transitory ischemic attacks and other diseases. However, vibration and instability analysis of carotid arteries are lacking. The objective of this study is to investigate the vibration and instability of the carotid arteries conveying blood under axial tension with surrou...
